8e6 Technologies Introduces Web Filtering Client For Out-of-Network Devices
8e6 Client is a Unique Appliance-based Web Filtering Solution for Laptop and Remote Computers
SAN JOSE, Calif. – RSA CONFERENCE – BOOTH 1601 – February 14, 2006 –
8e6 Technologies, a security company dedicated to Internet filtering and reporting, today announced the release of 8e6 Client, a unique appliance-based remote Web filtering application. Leveraging technology from Bsecure Technologies, the new solution allows organizations to enforce the same Web filtering protection to remote devices as machines that reside inside the network. 8e6 Client extends the functionality of the 8e6 R3000 appliance, empowering IT Administrators to enforce acceptable Web-use policies including access to known spyware and phishing sites. Additionally, 8e6 Client is centrally managed from the 8e6 Management Console, delivering a complete hardware/software end-to-end Web filtering solution.
Today’s extended workforce is increasingly mobile and Internet-dependent. Remote workers are regularly logging into the network from conference rooms, hotels, airports and other locations outside of the corporate network that are not controlled by an employer’s IT administrators. With employees connecting at such diverse locations, the security posture of individual laptops can easily become compromised. Schools are beginning to implement “one-on-one” initiatives to make laptop computers available to students. Unfiltered Internet browsing can lead to malware exposure such as spyware, which can overextend system resources and slow the network. Additionally, Webmail, instant messaging and other applications each have their unique vulnerabilities that present additional security challenges.
“Our customers are readily seeking technology that enables administrative control over remotely connected devices to ensure each remains in compliance with company security policies,” said Paul Myer, president and COO of 8e6. “As solutions such as 8e6 Client are implemented, enterprises no longer have to be concerned with the liability presented by remote computers.”
“Since its inception, Bsecure has continued to evaluate changing user needs and evolve its solutions accordingly,” says David Haadsma, CEO of Bsecure Technologies. “With proven technology in the consumer marketplace, developing a solution for remote corporate workers was a natural crossover. The combined 8e6 and Bsecure solution empowers IT administrators to enforce acceptable use policies that prevent system compromise regardless of where users connect to the Internet.”
8e6 Client blocks users from accessing or sharing media files, software and viruses using unauthorized IM and P2P applications. Workforce productivity rises as the threat of viruses and other malware is reduced. Additional features of 8e6 Client include:
- Consistent Filtering Experience – 8e6 Client automatically senses when the laptop or device returns to the network and defers to normal network filtering, providing a consistent user experience.
- Integrated Reporting Capability – Provides the capability for reports to be integrated back to 8e6’s Enterprise Reporter. Web activity both on the network and done remotely become available through the Enterprise Reporter for a fully integrated solution.
- Standalone Appliance – Unlike software-based filtering solutions that overextend system resources, 8e6 Client is part of an integrated solution dedicated to monitoring and filtering Internet access. This approach allows for a stable and scalable filtering solution that does not slow down the flow of traffic.
- Reduces Legal Liability – Provides management with a tool to enforce an organization's Acceptable Use Policy and complies with filter-enforcing laws such as CIPA, HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley.
Pricing and Availability
8e6 Client ranges from $4 to $25 per user per year depending on volume and will begin shipping to customers in Q1 2006.
