The Arctic Winter Games and 8e6 Technologies Team Up to Bring the 20th Biennial Games Online Safely8e6 Donates Internet Filtering Technology to Protect More Than 1,000 Onsite Computers Monday, March 10, 2008 ORANGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--8e6 Technologies, the leader in Internet filtering and reporting for the K-12 market, today announced a partnership with this year’s Arctic Winter Games (AWG) in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. AWG will utilize 8e6 Technologies’ award-winning Web filtering solution to provide safe Internet access to its 2,000 youth participants. In addition, 8e6 Technologies will be sponsoring the Games by providing its services at no charge throughout the duration of the Games. The Arctic Winter Games provides the opportunity for athletes under the age of 18 from the circumpolar world to join together in celebrating sports and culture. This year, contingents from Russia, Alaska, Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik, Greenland, Northern Alberta, as well as the Sami people of Norway and Finland, will congregate in Yellowknife to take part in the Games. Beyond the sporting events themselves, the AWG Host Society provides amenities and activities in-between the events. This year, athletes will be housed in local schools, and seven online computer hubs with over 1,000 Internet-accessible computers will be available for the participants. To make this safe Internet access possible, AWG turned to the leaders in keeping kids safe online, 8e6 Technologies. Internet access provider Government of the Northwest Territories integrated 8e6’s Internet filtering and reporting services with their Internet access for all area school districts, thereby assuring the AWG and parents of the participants that the young participants are safely surfing the Web away from home. “We really wanted to make this year’s Games a fun and safe environment for our participants not only during the competitions, but also when they’re hanging out during their downtime,” said Holly Angus, fundraising manager for this year’s Arctic Winter Games. “We’re very excited to be able to provide safe online computer access for our young participants so they can check-in with friends and family during the Games and also get in touch with the friends they make here. We’re thrilled 8e6 Technologies, through their donation, has helped to make this possible.” 8e6 Technologies’ Internet filtering appliance allows for the industry’s highest level of customized, safe content filtering to protect students from the risks of inappropriate Web surfing. As leaders in the K-12 education space, 8e6 Technologies’ solutions help school districts achieve and maintain compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), yet enables administrators to customize and choose to allow or block specific Web sites based on each school district’s needs. The appliance-based system incorporates unique technology which prevents user attempts to access proxies or workarounds to bypass Internet filters, while also preventing access to pornography and other inappropriate online material. “Being able to be a part of the Arctic Winter Games is a very gratifying feeling. The spirit of the Games encourages the pure enjoyment of athletic competition, sportsmanship and fosters great relationships between international cultures. It is great to see such an event dedicated to our youngest generation,” said George Shih, founder and CEO of 8e6 Technologies. “We’re very happy to do our part and contribute to this year’s Games.” Following the Games, the Government of the Northwest Territories and their respective school districts will continue to use 8e6 Technologies’ Internet filtering and reporting solutions to maintain the highest level of safety within their districts.
