Technical Q & A
Q: How can I prevent users from accessing images through Google Image Search? Users are getting through to content from sites I have blocked.
A: Users are able to access images from any URL that is not set up to be blocked. If the image resides at an alias URL from Playboy's Web site that is not blocked—such as img4.playboy.com—that image will be accessible. To resolve this problem, 8e6 requests our customers to let us know the URL of the image that needs to be blocked so we can add this URL to the library.

March’s Success Story
Profile: The Rhode Island Network for Educational Technology (RINET), a non-profit corporation, is a collaborative center for developing partnerships and technologies to foster educational and community excellence in Rhode Island.
Challenge: Rhode Island schools and districts asked RINET to find a centralized solution capable of supporting multiple high-bandwidth sites while allowing each entity to set its own filtering parameters and rules.
Solutions: R3000G
Results: With over 100,000 Internet users at any given time, RINET found the R3000G to be an excellent solution to keeping bandwidth congestion down and Internet learning up. Pam Christman, Director of Technology Programs and Services, says, “The pass-by filtering technology from 8e6 allows normal traffic and high bandwidth applications (such as video conferencing) to flow smoothly, while keeping students safer on the Internet." She adds, "8e6 was the logical choice for RINET in 2001 and remains so today. Use of the R3000 filters allows schools and districts to maintain CIPA compliance, which means that RINET members remain eligible for federal E-rate funding."

FREE White Paper: CIPA and Children: Keeping the Internet Safe
What exactly is CIPA and how does it affect public schools and libraries nationwide? Since 2000, CIPA has mandated that schools and libraries filter the Internet in order to continue receiving federal funds. This means these organizations must keep a close watch on Internet activity within a network without disrupting IT management’s core duties and time. 8e6’s R3000 Internet Filter helps organizations protect students, remain CIPA compliant, and limit their legal liability.
