8e6 Technologies Wins Technology & Learning Award of Excellence PDF Print E-mail
ORANGE, Calif. - October 15, 2007 - 8e6 Technologies, the leader in Internet filtering and reporting for the K-12 market, is pleased to announce that the 8e6 Mobile Client was awarded the prestigious "Award of Excellence" by Technology & Learning Magazine. This innovative application from 8e6 extends the safety of Internet filtering beyond traditional school walls and applies the same safeguards to school laptops.

The Technology & Learning "Award of Excellence" is a prestigious 25-year-old recognition program, with software and Web products that break new ground in some important way and also demonstrate clear superiority over similar products in the market. This year's winners were chosen by more than 30 educator-judges who test-drove over 120 entries, logging in many hours in computer labs at San Francisco Bay Area schools.

"This recognition for the 8e6 Mobile Client recognizes the importance of providing Acceptable Use Policy, and CIPA compliance to all computer systems accessed by students, despite their physical location," said Paul Myer, president and COO of 8e6 Technologies. "As more school districts provide laptop and notebook computers for students to take home, it is important that the students are protected from the dangers on the Internet no matter where they are accessing the content."

One of the organizations that was first to adopt the 8e6 Mobile Client was Henrico County Public Schools (HCPS), one of the pioneers in the area of one-to-one laptop initiatives. By working closely with Lloyd Brown, director of technology for HCPS, 8e6 was able to understand the challenges of one-to-one programs and design a solution that would directly meet those challenges, including extending the AUP beyond the physical borders of the school, while easily integrating it into the existing infrastructure. 8e6 has since deployed the 8e6 Mobile Client in various other districts who have deployed one-to-one programs similar to Henrico's.

"We first started using 8e6's Internet filtering solution in 2002 and we have been pleased with it ever since. The 8e6 Mobile Client has increased our satisfaction," Brown said. "8e6 has proved to stand behind its product and service. HCPS staff appreciates the fact that there is only one number to call for support. But the best thing of all is that the Mobile Client simply does its job well. It has saved the school considerable expense and our students are protected, our network is secure and parents are informed that their kids are being filtered."

8e6 Technologies offers the Mobile Client as an add-on solution to its market leading Internet Filtering and Reporting Professional and Standard Editions. The combined solutions provide Internet Filtering and Reporting for users both on and off the organization's network, with the ability to set policy and report on all network and mobile users through a centralized solution. In addition, the 8e6 Mobile Client can be used with competitive Internet Filtering solutions to provide filtering for laptops which leave the network, with the policy for all mobile users being controlled by a single interface. The 8e6 Mobile Client supports both Windows and Macintosh laptops.
